Being a Software Developer and a Dad
Time management (or juggling as i call it) is like some sort of puzzle, life is made of puzzles anyway, so this is just another one to complete.
September 2018Being a software developer and a father is not a walk in the park… Or is it? Developers tend to be organized, methodic and strict rule
followers when at work, so why not apply some of that organization to your ‘main life’ at home in order to keep things
flowing?
I like to have my time occupied doing something. I can be washing the dishes, flying an Airbus A320 on my home simulator, taking care
of my little baby or just letting go of some steam by riding my motorbike. If your day is not organized in some way, you’ll lose track quickly
and your 24 hours will turn into 12, or even 6 real fast and most of your hobbies will turn into nightmares because you’ll be counting the minutes
you still have and that is not good; it doesn’t give you freedom. I have time for all this and still make it to the park for some time with my
personal trainer two times a week: there’s no secret, there’s just efficient time management.
Time management (or juggling as i call it) is like some sort of puzzle, life is made of puzzles anyway, so this is just another one to complete. Plan your day in your head, it helps keeping you entertained in the little dead times at work and gives you daily objectives to live for. Fit the puzzle
pieces the best you can, so they are arranged in your schedule, trying to insert the things you least like to do in between things that give you most
pleasure — This will make boring tasks like laundry, dish washing, house cleaning or cooking (for some people) a lot easier to accomplish.
