The story of Luis: a Brazilian developer in Europe
The people here were so welcoming, and the change was so smooth, that I believe I will carry the memories of being here with me for the rest of my life.
June 2018Hey Luis! Thank you for sharing your story with us. Could we start this interview off with a little bit about yourself? What do you do and why did you choose to come to Lisbon, Portugal?
Hello! I’m Luis Nascimento and I am a SAP Developer. As my grandfather grew up in a small town in The Azores and moved to Brazil I heard some stories of his childhood in Portugal. Those moments with him fired up my curiosity about the country and made me want to visit it ever since.
In 2016 I started to look for new opportunities overseas and thought about Lisbon. I saw a job opening at Lisbon Nearshore and the rest is history!
The people here were so welcoming, and the change was so smooth, that I believe I will carry the memories of being here with me for the rest of my life.
What is a typical day for you at Lisbon Nearshore?
Wake up, ride bike to work, have a coffee with the colleagues, check the emails, start programming, meetings with the client, solve problems and discuss new solutions, leave and go to the gym. Afterwards, go home have dinner and chill with my wife.
What advice would you give to a prospective candidate looking to join the team?
Never give up, it’s worth it! I’ve never met managers as honest, open and trustful as in Lisbon NearShore.
The team is amazing, always willing to help and make you grow. This will require the best of you though, and you need to always be on your feet thinking how you can add value with your work.
How do you enjoy your free time in Lisbon? Do you have any hobbies or practice a sport?
I enjoy my free time hanging out with my family and friends and exploring the city. I also like working out, playing sports, meeting new people and reading books.
